Anxiety Causing Insomnia
At night I worry about a lot things that pop in my head big and small. I tried to decompress and listen to music before bed but it doesn
I have the same problem. I try to talk to myself nicely and be reassuring. It might sound corny, but sometimes Ill count backwards or start naming things I want to eat alphabetically so I can eventually get tired and fall asleep. Its a distraction method. Sometimes nothing works.
@easyWater4109 I write down things I have to complete that day or the next day so my mind will calm down. It does not always work; however, has brought me some quiet.
If it's a case where my body is tired but I'm lying there and my mind won't let me sleep, then I know that what I need is a distraction from my troubled thoughts. So in that case I watch something semi-engaging on my laptop. I know that's a big no-no according to sleep experts, but if it works it works. Is it really that much worse than depending on melatonin or counting or camomille or white noise (which don't much work for me)? It usually works within half an hour and I drift off. I don't mind this little dependency because I reach for it maybe once a week if extra anxious, plus there is a good chance I will almost always have my laptop available (as in, I rarely find myself sleeping away from home).
But of course, while this might often help my sleeplessness, it doesn't help the root problem of anxiety. So it would be ideal to tackle anxiety so that my whole day improves, not just sleep. For me, offloading helps - expressing in depth whatever is worrying me.
@easyWater4109 Lol, thinking of good eats would be too engaging for me because this is one of my greatest loves.
