Anxiety and BPD
Hello, I’ve recently been dealing with a lot of anxiety about the fact that I’m fairly certain that I may have BPD. I can’t afford therapy and it’s been really messing with me.

As someone who has both anxiety and BPD, I can understand how u might be feeling especially knowing u can't get a diagnosis.
To be honest, receiving the diagnosis isn't some thank God, finally I can get treatment... Everything is finally going to be better! I thought having a diagnosis would change everything, and it has, but unfortunately not the way I thought. BPD is basically the scarlet letter of the metal health diagnoses. I was warned by the psychiatrist that diagnosed it, the therapist I was seeing, and the psychiatrist that took over because the first one had to leave to care for his dying father to be careful with deciding whether to tell mental health professionals in the future about the diagnosis because of the stigma that unfortunately is also affecting mental health professionals. I have had 3 therapists dump me when I told them, and countless ones who refused to see me. My psychiatrist doesn't know. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is the most effective treatment for it, but I haven't found a therapist that does it that my insurance would pay for.
I think it would be helpful if u researched it a little more, and focus on the characteristics of BPD and think hard about ur life and see if u have any of the characteristics before jumping to ur conclusion, even if ur convinced perhaps try learning more about DBT to help you control it...I personally would've preferred not knowing which personality do I had, unspecified would have made my life soo much easier regarding my treatment options and also keep the stigma from being attached to me forever.
Anxiety is a symptom of BPD, but also of a lot of other things. It's also normal for people who have no mention mental health issues to experiment it occasionally. Thankfully there's a lot of ways to deal with it. I recommend learning more about it because knowledge really is power. I can tell u how I try to cope with it, perhaps it may help u, I hope it does....I have panic attacks from my anxiety, but I have practiced stopping it from progressing that far:
*deep breathing exercises, there's several and some work better than others so I would try to figure out the one for u by research or asking this forum what deep breathing exercises people recommend
*meditation is really helpful especially if ur able to truly focus on engaging ur senses, it helps to sort of ground u (touching something with an uncommon texture, use the sense of smell by smelling something u equate with a time u didn't feel like u do now
*listen to music
*talking to a friend or family member about how ur feeling, if nothing else, venting is cathartic
Try and relax and remember that only a doctor can diagnose BPD, and because u are in to see someone at the moment..let it go, the stress about something u may not have is unhealthy both mentally and physically. Until u are able to see someone try and focus on just living ur life and u may or may not be living it with BPD, so try and remember u may have. Also, research DBT and use the mindfulness option to help ur anxiety. It's also a large part of DBT, it takes time, but the more u practice, the easier it will become.
I sincerely wish u the best of luck, and if u ever need to talk, I'm here.
