Anxiety and worried what others think of me

Hi. I’m a 29 y/o female. I’ve always had a hard time with worrying about what others think about me. And lately my anxiety has gotten worse and I feel like every time I go around certain people, they are bashing me and making fun of me in a passive way. I recently decided to quit using mmj and I don’t drink alcohol as often. I decided to try and go down a healthier path, and ever since then, I’ve been feeling uncomfortable around the people that I used to do all that stuff with. I had to distance myself from them so I wouldn’t fee the need to dabble in all of those things. But I feel like it backfired and now I’m just uncomfortable every time I’m around them. I get extreme anxiety and can’t make eye contact or pay attention. Then when I leave the situation, I later go over it in my head a million times. I know I should t care about what they think, but they are my husbands family so it makes it hard to deal with when I have to see them on the regular.

How do I not let it bother me? How do I stop caring?

One thing I have learnt is you can't control what others think about you. They're going to think whatever they want. Their thinking will be according to their personalities. Whether it's a positive or negative response about you, sometimes you can't change it. Life is too short to care about what others think about you. Other people's opinion don't define you and we don't always come across genuinely nice individual. Some people are nice and some are toxic. It's better to keep conversations platonic and minimum, if some people are too toxic and work on developing confidence by practice.

hey, are you me? Because I understand completely what you mean. I'm sorry you're going through this, because it sounds really stressful and you have to go through this cycle of anxiety everytime you talk to someone, which can be really tiring. I want to assure you that this is perfectly okay and it's understandable for you to have this anxiety. <3

thank you! And yeah it does get super exhausting going through the same anxious feelings every time I see these people. One thing that has for sure helped is being able to use 7 cups and getting to interact with people like you! You have made me feel a bit better with this one response. Thank you for taking the time to respond to me. It is so appreciated!
