Anxious about the future
Hey, I'm new here. Just wanted to share my situation so I can hear other peoples opinions and it might help others going through something similar.
I have been seeing this guy for almost a year but I have a compulsory year abroad to do starting in September. I overthink so much as it is and this is likely to become even worse when we are separated and in two completely different countries. I also become extremely anxious when I think about the time that I am away from him. Obviously I will see him, but not as much, and I have convinced myself that he will lose interest in me while I am away or that he'll meet someone better... I'm just very worried.
If anyone has any ways of coping and anything that could help me from worrying so much, that would be much appreciated
Hi @LucyG17!
As someone also in a long distance relationship, I do understand how you feel. The way I cope is by focusing on school and taking good care of myself- I engage in new hobbies, go to the gym, read books and spend time taking long walks. All of these activities allow me to free my mind from worrying too much. Much more, by engaging in these activities I build my self-confidence. Another practice I have is to often remind myself that I am worthy of love, I am a kind person, I am beautiful and a blessing to anyone who is around me. Therefore, I develop my own sense of self-worth, confidence, and identity outside of the relationship.
I hope this helps!
@redApple5233 Thank you! That definitely does help! I'm just scared that my insecurities and me worrying so much will push him away
Hello @LucyG17, please do not worry about pushing him away too much. Focus on your own well-being and health. The better you feel about yourself, the more attractive you become. One thing I remind myself is my inability to control somebody else's actions. I can only control mine. Also, I try to stay in the moment, enjoy the relationship today and take each day as it comes.
