Apathy?

Have you ever felt like nothing really matters? Like, you don't feel the effects of depression but you just don't really care about anything?

I wonder if this is what I have. I function on a normal level, and my doctor rules out depression for my cause, but I often feel like nothing matters to me much. Stuff like school, social life's, career choices, I find it very hard to get excited about that kind of stuff.

I don't know if it's because of my lack of social contact other than my family, or if it is because I'm afraid. Afraid of the real world and what happens. Being a commuter student from my parents house, I've never experienced the struggles of some college students. I've never known what it's like to be poor. I'm sheltered, in a sense. And I wonder if it negatively affected me.

I wish I knew why I felt this way. But I've never changed anything. I would settle and tell myself "it is what it is". I've always just rolled with the punches and adapted, but it never really led to anything.

I've lived in a constant cycle. School, work, alone time, repeat. I don't leave my house for social events. Most of my time is spent on my own.

But I plan to break this cycle somehow. Someday, but not today. Or at least I hope.

This really isn't an advice thread. I've just been doing some introspection before bed and this is what I wrote.

Hi @Nick8876 i found that when we live in a 'Cycle" life and things around us tend to become more routine and Mundane just doinf the same things over and over again, its hard to become excited. maybe try stiring or rather shaking things up a little and do it differently so iit can be more exciting or someting adventerous. Hello Nick, that was some great introspecting that you shared with us. I don't think these threads and posts here are supposed to be advice boards actually, so I think you did the right thing! it's to share experineces, it could be good, bad, helpful, sad, it could be a lot of things. I don't know how to comment on your introspection but I can say that I think I have fel the same with with different circumstances as you.. it does feel like apathy, no excitement, or I would say empty or blank. or like being a robot... or a silent life... it sounds like there's a quiet voice in you that says that he doesn't really want to feel that way anymore and feel more lively... that voice sounds very precious to me... I love that you have that voice in you, it was pleasant to read that you have that. please feel free to share your thoughts with me. :) journaling seems to be a feel-good thing to do also...

@helpfulSugar9

I've done a good deal of journaling in the past. But most of it isn't really constructive. Stuff like venting my anger, dealing with shame and anxiety, that sort of thing.
