I'm triggered about my boyfriend being friends with his ex girlfriend.

@May7104

1) Communicate your boundaries to him. Give him specific examples of how her involvement in his life is excessive.

2) Make it clear what you would like him to do about it specifically. Do you want him to talk to her about it? To end their friendship/communication altogether?

3) When you are both clear about where you both stand on the issue, secure a commitment from him about the issue. If he agrees that she is too involved in his life, and he agrees it makes you both unhappy, secure a promise from him that he will DO something about it, and will deliver the solutions you both agree upon, and set a time frame when it will happen.

4) It is very important that you do not get triggered during this conversation. When you communicate these needs to him, communicate from a position of what is in the RELATIONSHIP'S best interest (Talk about "We" not "me") so that you do not come across as a controlling/jealous girlfriend. Make it clear that you are not over-reacting about the situation, or that you're exaggerating, or being sensitive. Be calm, and reasonable, and you will be more persuasive.

If you both do NOT agree on the issue, and he does not agree that she is too involved in his life - then he is part of the problem and you need to determine whether you both have a future if he values his ex-girlfriend's involvement in his life more than his current relationship.

Wishing you all the best ~ !
