Constantly creating a "new" me
I feel really awful tonight upon realizing something. Every few months I get tired of my current situation - what i'm doing, where i'm living, what i look like, who i know, etc. I just feel unpleased with my life, even if everything is okay.. even if it's going great.
I was thinking about this tonight, as I was talking to an old friend from my first year of college. I dropped out not even a year into this program due to anxiety and self doubt. I was struggling heavily in other areas as well. This feeling in the past has caused me to feel the need to pick up and move on with my life. I didn't want to be where I was currently, I was getting tired of my day to day routine and what I was doing, I didn't want anyone to know me anymore, I just didn't want to be THERE. And so I would kind of run from my current situation, cutting off if not all ties, most. And then I would focus on rebuilding my life and I guess essentially creating a new me?
As I'm sitting here once again overthinking, I realize this stems from my childhood. I don't blame my mum because she was absolutely amazing. But due to harsh family finances and family situation, I had to constantly move. My family never owned a home, I never had a permanent place to be known. I also moved a lot due to being bullied, I was different from the get go - suffering from OCD and Anxiety at a young age and including constantly moving, I was never really able to make concrete friendships. My social skills lacked hard. So I would move when it would get really bad, and just completely remove myself from that place and those people. No one longer knew me as far as I was concerned and I soon would no longer be that girl that they knew. I would change, and I never really realized the impact that all 13 schools in elementary school (k-8) and the 2 moves in highschool before I dropped out had on me.
It's saddening and hard to think about because I really can't place blame but it's made me feel often empty, inauthentic - like I never even knew who I was or had a concrete personality.. So here we are and I'm in the same boat again at 23, going back to college for the third time. The last time, as I am determined to change this course of action. This habit of mine, I have come to realize, no change in environment and self is going to directly deal with this problem I have. I need to stop running away from myself and actually address my anxieties and self doubts. I am going to face this program head on with determination to do it right, to better myself for my future.
How many of you can relate to this?
Respond by telling me a bit of your story if you so wish and I shall respond. :)
None of you are alone, no matter how alone in this you may feel. Be extra gentle with yourself, you're doing the best you can despite all your circumstances.
