Creativity explotion every time something bad happens

This is something that happened since I can remember. Something bad would happen, I would stress beyond words over some incident, something I have to deal with. Then I'd have a nightmare. I usually like nightmares, even if they are disturbing. I'd have the nightmare, then when I wake up, I want to write it down to remember the feelings and emotions. And then I'd want to draw it. As disturbing as this might be, it's usually my most creative and most beautiful art. I don't think this is doing me any good though. Usually having those abundance of emotions make me go into a dark place. Like I'd isolate myself. Focus so much on this nightmare/art, that I forget about life around me. Like I just become this empty shell, and everything that is the essence of me, is drained onto that canvas. My family would tell me to "snap out of it". Or say "the devil/a demon is inside you again". This has come and go over years. But each time it's a harder place inside myself, that I find harder to escape. Maybe art is toxic to me.

It sounds like these incidents that you stress over so much cause you to have nightmares and you like those nightmares and you can turn them into art. From what it sounds like to me, art is a very big creative emotional outlet for you. Nightmares and dreams in general tend to be formed by the thoughts we have throughout the day and the things we haven't processed yet emotionally. I don't think art is toxic to you, but I understand you feel that way when then those bad feelings keep getting worse. I think it's worth looking into the source, aka those initial incidents that trigger the nightmares and see the feelings that are present there. This is a great topic to, if you can, discuss with a therapist.
