Do I have anxiety?
Hi, I've recently graduated from University and am currently still unemployed. I've been staying home for the past couple of weeks sending out resumes, but otherwise I'm basically lazing around and not doing much.
for the longest time I've wondered if I have some form of anxiety. I have not seen a psychologist before so I have not been diagnosed, but as a person I get nervous very easily (sweaty palms and feet, heart palpitations, trembling voice) especially when I have to speak to groups of people I tend to skip over my words a lot bit above all I'm prone to forgetting my train of thought in the middle of the speech/conversation. I think that's mostly due to my fear of being judged by others. I've been fat and obese since I was a child and I guess I have been pushed around by others in the past. Things are not as bad now but my self-esteem is clearly affected so I tend to not approach people all that mich and have only a small number of friends / people I trust and contact frequently.
I recently found out about my own anger management issues as well; there are days where I get annoyed at the smallest things that I can't help but scream / throw things / cry to get all the pent up frustration out of my chest. It could be as simple as someone who "ignores" my question because they couldn't hear what I've said. But it gets me so bad cuz I feel so disrespected as a person? I know it's silly to think that and I'm not in the right state of mind, but at that very moment I felt that way and I couldn't help myself at all.
I want to seek help but the stigma of mental illness is significant where I live, and I don't want to worry my parents (I'm still financially dependent on them so if I seek professions help, they would have to pay) My friends are mostly similar to me, they all have their own share of problems so its hard for me to confide in them. I feel like I need help but at the same time I don't want to be a burden to anyone. But at this rate I'm just going to continue ruining my own life and future.
@HeavyChocobo Did you know the most common anxiety in the world is public speaking anxiety? It beat snakes spiders and vomiting! I think knowing this could be a huge help to you so you know you arent alone and in fact many MANY people feel anxious at the same situation.
I wouldnt exactly say it is a disorder as more anxiety for speaking publically, which again is extremely common, the anxiety that you are describing is quite common and you can learn techniques to over come these effects, such as breathing techniques and mindfulness I will attach some links here for you to look through and also links for feeling confident in public speaking situations. I hope this helps :) You are absolutely not alone :)
