Drowning
Hey, i don't know where to start... My social anxiety is taking over my life right now. I can't attent university or any social activities and i m not sure how I m supposed to handle my life right now. Today I had very dark thoughts, but I am proud of myself that I stood through it and didn't listen to my head. To be honest, I feel like my head is trying to kill me. Sometimes I think I am going insane. I don't know how to cope with that...
Hi @fearlessShade5217
I'm sorry to hear you're struggling with social anxiety right now. It sounds like it's decided to pounce on you at the worst possible time too - with university to attend and opportunities to mingle with new people. I can imagine how it could be adding so much unnecessary stress, when university is stressful enough all on it's own!
Anxiety can be really debilitating and when it turns to having dark thoughts we really do feel like there's no way to cope. But as you've already done today.. you've come out on top just by pulling through when you feel rock bottom.
Here on 7cups we usually have to refer members to a crisis hotline if they have any suicidal thoughts. I hope if you were to feel this way again that you use a Hotline
It can make a difference. I've been on a call myself when I have felt the same way.
Although 'drowning' seems so violent and right now for you, it seems like the perfect word to describe how you feel. It tells me one thing.. You haven't 'sank'. You're holding on and you fought the thoughts today. So you have what it takes to fight them again tomorrow, right?
You may have had a think about these already. But I'd like to ask a few questions that you might find useful to ask yourself:
Is there anything significant that has caused the symptoms of social anxiety?
Have you identified any triggers that cause your social anxiety?
(Yes, crowds may be an obvious answer here. However, is there anything specific about a/the trigger that causes you to feel this way?)
Have you discovered anything that helps at all? If so might it help to use this method/technique in the future?
I hope this helps in anyway it can
Wish you the best
