Feeling Weird

After dinner I walked my dog as I always do. During the walk I noticed something odd. Something different. I noticed i didn't feel weird.

I have not felt right, like myself, like I am in the right place since I stopped drinking nearly 5 years ago.

Is this what its like for most people? Have I reached the other side?

@Gettingbettertoday hi first I want to commend you on your years of recovery. That is amazing. It sounds like things are finally starting to feel right to you. I definitely think it’s valid to be feeling clearheaded after all this time. What kind of things have you done to take care of yourself besides walking your dog it sounds like you’re doing a great job..

@Onyx000

Not much to be honest. I am not one to follow systems or to have a ridged routine.

Along the way I have tried CBT, DBT, Meditation, and i try to attend with 7Cups mindfulness classes on Monday and Tuesday.

Hello!

I know some time has passed since you posted this, but I wanted to drop a reply regardless and let you know, first of all, that I'm proud of your recovery and hope you're still going strong; and second, I think it's pretty common not to notice a gradual change until it hits you suddenly.

I recall visiting family with my toddler, and everyone would say "wow, she's gotten so big!" or "she looks so different than the last time I saw her!" and I'd think Really? She looks the same to me! But of course she does; I see her every day, so the changes aren't as noticeable to me as they are to the people who only see her once a month.

I imagine it's the same for you. You've been making these changes every day, consciously deciding what choices to make in favour of your recovery, so you don't see the big picture, just the small details. It's so cool that you had a sort of epiphany while walking your dog and could recognize how far you've come!

Congratulations, and I hope you're continuing along whatever path you've chosen for yourself.
