How can I manage sensory overload?

I feel like a huge part of my anxiety is the overwhelming sensory overload I get when I'm in different environments, i'm not sure if other anxiety sufferers can relate.

For example if I'm out on the shopping street: the loud trucks coming past right next to you, revving of cars, being surrounded by people and feeling like everyone is watching you even though they aren't. Screaming children, machinary.

Even being in a room with my parents: the small talk, the silence, the chewing, the scraping of forks. Watching my mum bite her nails or slurp her coffee.

I just feel tense when I'm in environments like that. I hope someone can give me some tips on how to manage it or also tell me your own experiences if you've had them. I'm starting university later on in the year and I'm terrified. I just want to feel normal and have fun.
