How to calm yourself?

Hey guys, this is my first post. I was first diagnosed with GAD over 10 years ago, after I went into the doctor for my panic attacks. I'm really hoping someone can offer some advice on how they calm themselves when they're in the midst of an overwhelming episode. I've found that ambiguous circumstances, or being unsure of the future outcome of something, is a big trigger for me. I also find myself getting in a vicious cycle if something goes really wrong and messes up plans that I had. My childhood was unpredictable, as was previous relationship, so I'm self aware that these feelings are out of fear waiting for the other shoe to drop. What I dont know is how to begin undoin years of learned behavior. The toughest part is trying not to be my own enemy. I've got a lot of good things going for me, And i always worry I'm going to mess it up by overreacting or being emotional. It's like...ill be in the middle of an attack and KNOW what's happening but be helpless to stop it, then going overboard to fix it.

Anyway if anyone has any words of wisdom they would be much appreciated. I am all ears.

@MetalUnicorn Hi, it isn't about undoing the behaviour you have learnt, it's about learning new behaviours. Don't always think you will mess things up, we all make mistakes and that's ok. There are so many ways to cope with anxiety it's just about finding them or asking for some support, I hope you have a therapist or are being given CBT. I hope you have great family and friendship to turn to on those times where your struggling. Meditation is great for anxiety believe it or not, it's is really worth a try. All the best :)
