I am afraid of losing my dad.
My dad has cancer and declining fast. I'm 33 and he's only 20 years older than me. I don't have any grandparents left. I couldn't even see them when they were dying because they were my world. Now my father is sick. And with covid and money problems I can't get money to go see him. Even if I did, I don't want my daughter to get to kno her grandad and then he die. It may mess her up for life. I didn't get as many years with him as my sisters. And they don't understand how I feel. They think I'm made of money and can just zoom right over. I'm states away.I don't know what to do or what to think. I gave anxiety and panic attacks. And they're getting bad again. I've kept them at bay the last year with covid but now they're back and I do not know how to cope...any advice is welcome. Please be nice.
I lost my mom 07-30-20 to cirrhosis of the liver and she was my best friend. So my heart aches for you and what you are going through. Are virtual visits an option with your dad? I video chatted with my mom daily, sometimes multiple times a day and that really helped. You can always record the chats, so you have them even after he's gone. Hope this helped. Good luck.
Sorry to hear of your situation. I second the notion of video chats. It will help you both to communicate with one another.
If you are in any way able to get to him, I would say do it. Finances are never easy, but there's always a way. It is worth making the effort to see him in person.
You will never get a second chance to tell your father you love him. Or to say goodbye. I must live with those regrets. You still have the opportunity, and I'm glad for it.
@Irishbelle87 I am sorry that this is happening to you especially in such a difficult year . I don't have advice to offer unfortunately about the traveling problem but right now the only thing you can do is pray and have strength. It's easier said than done, but for your father and daughter it is crucial. As about your daughter,I have this to say: my grandfather passed away last February. My brother and my dad visisted him two months prior but due to covid restrictions I didn't get to go. Even now I have regrets not being able to see him in his final moments, because he said to my dad how much he wanted to see me(I hadn't seen him for three years). I think it's nest for the kid to see her grandad it will make them both happy. People come and go but the good memories stay on. Im sorry if that sucked. I will pray that your dad becomes better if that helps
