I'm fearful of face to face classes

I'm 14 and for 2 years I have been going to school through online class. My school recently announced that there was going to be face to face classes next week. I'm not sure if I want to attend but I have no choice. I'm afraid that I'm not going to be able to get along with my classmates and also afraid of not being able to defend myself incase I get bullied. I never rlly bonded with my classmates cause I think it was unnecessary which to me is still true but I'm still anxious on what will happen because I have no one by my side. I just wanna be alone at school without looking like a fool to everyone. how can I deal with this?

Hey Ivory! Honestly I really understand where you're coming from, COVID does have a huge negative impact on all of our lives in one way or another. However, I think that you will be fine. First of all, it is completely okay to not bond with others. To me, I think that the no.1 priority at school would still (and always would) be to learn and develop, and that's why you're there spending all your time and effort. So, as long as you are doing fine with your grades and stuff like that, then I think whether to have friends or not is honestly your own personal choice, and it should not be judged by anyone else. However, if being alone at your school really bothers you, and you want a friend by your side, then you should (i know it's hard, but) try to have chats with the others. For example, before face-to-face school starts, you could try to have conversations with others in your class. Like perhaps find people with similar interests like you do? Even if it does not work, friendship would come to you automatically, trust me. Even if it is simply a casual small talk with someone who you don't know at school, there would always be the possibility for you to get new friends! So, I think that you shouldn't worry about it too much -- I think that you will turn out just fine. Even if you don't want to make any friends, it is completely fine! Also, if there actually were issues related to bullying, then I think that talking to close ones (like family or teachers) should always be a good choice. But also keep in mind to not get yourself into anyone else's drama, it would be completely a waste of time, and might get you into trouble. Simple short note at the end: just be yourself.

Hi Ivory,

Makes perfect sense that you're feeling worried about going back to school again. You and your classmates have had the weirdest few years with lots to deal with. Most people have struggled at some point so at least you won't be alone in your worries. Your teachers will be well aware of what you've all been through and I imagine there will be support in place if you wanted it. It can take time to find people who understand us but you have so much in common with the other people at school already (same classes, teachers, school, age) so I believe you'll make friends if you want to ♥
