Just feel really down
So let me start of by saying, i’m 25 and I recently was let go by a large hospital chain I was a unit coordinator, there was a lot of people that had gotten a phone number to use to clock in and out everyone had been using it for months and no one said anything, a lot of people were given final warnings but myself and a few others were terminated because they stated we should have been running audits because we did payroll and should have known better, when we tried explaining that we were never trained how to do that and our manager even sat there and knew we weren’t because she didn’t even know and stayed quiet through the whole thing it was a huge stab in the back and it hurt to know the person we helped and protected the most didn’t help us in the end. I’ve never been written up, or anything before that just straight to termination it really sucks and it hurt I really did a lot of that organization, I helped reform better care through new protocols I was on the shared governance meetings to help form the way we take care of our patients I did a lot of good and this one thing killed it all, someone said it was HR’s way of blaming someone else for something they missed but it hurts because I don’t believe I deserve to have been let go I should have also gotten a final warning like the rest.
I found another job a week later doing way less work which was a plus but it was sadly a 2$ paycut. But I got many letters of recommendation from fellow workers, P.A, N.P, and MD’s for my hard work and dedication to the organization. I also was just accepted into my local schools RN program and they made it sound like it’s going to be incredibly hard and now I’m panicking about that I know you have to work hard but all of this happened within the past month and I feel like everything is just crumbling down on me, like me being let go was the world telling me not to be a nurse. I just have so much anxiety right now and so much depression which is weird because I usually don’t have either but it’s like my life just fell apart.
Hello &New2Therapy,
First, welcome to the group. You’re not alone and will find a lot of support on the message boards.
When I was 25, I thought I wanted a marketing job. I was a temp for a very large company and doing the work, and when I interviewed for the permanent position, they passed me over. It hurt really bad, because everyone said I was doing a terrific job.
I did some deep soul searching at that time and decided to try a different career path. It’s very empowering when you can stop and explore what you really want to do. After a while, I saw it as a blessing they passed me over. Fast forward a number of years later, I’m soooo happy they passed me over.
This is your time to see if nursing is what you truly want to do. If not, that’s okay too. It’s always uncomfortable to start something new. Uncertainty is a normal part of life and so is anxiety. It’s when your anxiety becomes severe and affects your day to day life.
The fact that others know your work ethic and the kind of person you are should make you feel good. You found another job in a week—that’s amazing! And, it’s okay to be upset with your former employer and supervisor. It sounded like unfair situation. It’s probably a blessing in disguise that you got out of that organization.
I think that when you eventually look back on this situation, you’ll be like me. You’ll see it as a blessing too.
Cheers to you and your future!
