Medication Worries

I started taking Buspar again about 3 weeks ago, but I don't feel like I am really benefiting from it. My doctor thought to perscribe me zoloft as well to take in combination...I got the script but I am very worried to start taking it because of reading about the drug interactions and 'serotonin syndrome" I know this is rare - but I have anxiety, so obviously this is going to happen to me if I start taking thw two together.

Does anyone have any insight?

Thank you in advance.

It's perfectly normal to worry, especially when it comes to your health.

Any medication comes with a risk and facing a combination treatment can be quite a daunting experience. For the past year I have been on a combined treatment of immunosuppressants which increases the risk of many things, including developing cancer (although it's very rare). Once the C word was mentioned, I was in the same position as you; I got myself in such an anxious state and convinced myself that the worst and rarest possible outcome would happen to me.

Properly researching the combined treatment and the possible risks is what helped me the most. When I say proper research, I don't mean using google. Although the internet is great for many things it really isn't the best when it comes to your health. Instead I jotted some questions down surrounding my main worries and spoke them through with the doctors and nurses. Some questions I asked from the top of my head were:

∙ Is there an alternative treatment? If so, what possible risks does it bring?

∙ Will I be frequently monitored whilst I am on this treatment?

∙ What are the pros if I agree to the treatment? and the cons if I don't?

It is your health and you are in charge. Sometimes when people get anxious over their health, they forget that they are the ones in control which can make it a whole lot worse; I know I did! Like I said, it's completely normal to feel anxious over any sort of risk. Try speaking to your doctor or nurse again as they're in the best position to provide you with all of the facts as well as supporting you physically and mentally. You won't be the first nor the last person to feel this way!

Wishing you well and I hope it all gets sorted out. Give me a shout if you need someone to be a listening ear and I will get back to you as soon as I can! wink

@Sealiously

Thank you for your reply. I have decided to hold off on the second medication for now.
