Is it normal to become numb during meditation if you are a beginner? Because that happened with me.

@PrinceofDDR

do you mean a physical numbness? like in your legs?

if that's the case i would recommend meditating for a shorter period of time and sitting on a cushion (if you're sitting cross legged on the floor or something)

@EllieKB I mean a whole body numbness. I was laying down flat while doing it. Scared me half to death.

@PrinceofDDR

There are many thoughts, feelings, sensations that can arise during meditation. I understand you felt anxious when that occurred. If you are working with a teacher or therapist, they can be helpful. If not, a therapist here may be able to answer your questions if you walk him/her through the specifics. I can tell you that you are not alone and it is definitely worth it to find a technique that will allow you to be more comfortable.

@Compassionatelistener108

I mostly just lay down, listen to some soothing music, close my eyes and take deep breaths every so often.

@PrinceofDDR Hi! The numbness you felt in your body does happen sometimes. It is the same as when your leg or hand falls asleep when you are completely relaxed and then coupled with the deep breathing can sometimes cause a kind of heavy numbness.

It is less likely to happen sitting or doing it during yoga and the more you practice.

It is also possible that you may just need to try different forms/ways of meditating to figure out which works best for you and your body.

I hope this is helpful
