Here is my story, I am in love with someone who was in love with me. He was so nice and tender… but my anxiety was so bad at the moment I could not respond his love… I did not tell him that I suffered GAD because I was recently diagnosed, and had so little information… even my self didn’t know well about the cause of my behaviors… so he thought that my behavior (not answering calls, not hugging, not answering sms) was because i wasn’t interested. Now I’m better, I can show my love without fear, and can open about my feelings without having a panic attack o feeling miserable but he says he doesn’t feel the same, even when he understand and know that I didn’t meant to hurt him… he said that his heart moved on and he cares about me but it’s hard for him to feel the same emotion when he was first trying… I don’t know what to do… and I’m no desperate but it causes me so much anger and sadness… I know there’s nothing I can do but still want to do something… I hope your GAD doesn’t make you lose anybody like it did to me! Love you and thanks for being here

I'll tell you what. It's so easy to get locked up in the idea that a person's responses to us is a reflection of us, when the reality is that the way you respond is a reflection of who you are. And the way a person responds to you is a reflection of who they are.

I understand that you care very deeply for this person. But if he doesn't want to take the time to understand these problems about you - or if he is saying that he doesn't feel the same way about you - then this is your first indicator regarding how he would be in a relationship after the young love phase has passed.

As much as you care for him and as much as it hurts, do you want to be with someone whose heart has moved on from you?

What would that feel like 5 years into a potential relationship with him?

If you were in love with you, would you treat you the way that he treats you? And if the roles were reversed - if he was in your same predicament and you had no idea, would you treat him the way he treats you?

Because our brains are wired to take things personally, I genuinely understand why you would feel that your GAD made you lose someone that you loved.

But if he truly loved you - or if he was truly ready to commit - GAD would hardly be enough to pull him from you. Because a man who is in love will move the stars to be with the one he loves.
