People with traumatic experiences:
How did you get through them without going over the edge completely? I have had a really hard few years and pretty much no one to talk to about my mental state it so I would like to know
Hi @JessieKat
I'm sorry to hear that you've been having a few hard years - you're not alone. I'm proud of you for reaching out and asking about it - that's a good first step.
I was diagnosed with P.T.S.D. this past summer (though the signs and symptoms were there a lot longer). Some of the things that have helped me are hoping/believing it could get better, and reaching out for support/community. Talking to others when about it, when you are ready, is vital to healing.
Having outlets like therapy, 7cups, friends, creative writing, listening to music, walks, and some cathartic screaming into a pillow have also been helpful.
There have been times when I started to shut down and shut people out. I thought I had to 'tough it out.' Those times have been what nearly sent me over the edge.
So hold on - you're not alone, and you don't have to go through this alone. It might not seem like it right now, but it can get better. There are a lot of people who are willing to listen. You may find it helpful to check out Trauma Support as well: https://www.7cups.com/home/trauma/
