Trouble controlling negative thoughts

I always seem to find the worst case scenario in every situation. I have a very hard time telling myself that everything is going to be ok and believeing it. Even when I know that I'm going to be ok, I still feel like the worst "what if" is going to happen. Any tips for controlling these negative thoughts?

@tl6565 I'm in the same boat.

Although I haven't found a way to completely make the negative thoughts go away, taking lots of breaks to meditate fo five minutes helps me calm down a bit. I've found that if I'm feeling less anxious and more relaxed it's a bit easier to cope with negative thoughts.

@Helgafy Hi Helga :) thank you for the tip. I do yoga in the mornings and start by listing three things I'm thankful for, but perhaps making a list and see it grow every day will help put things in perspective.

Yes, I think so - and change the way we think. I don't always manage to be thankful - not on my lowest days. (I am a Christian so my gratitude go up high). But in any case - believer or not - I think gratitude makes us more happy.

@tl6565 hi I'm sorry about what you're feeling now. Seriously I feel the same thing too. But my tips is keep forcing yourself about good thing that might happen in the future. If you stop now is it worth it? If you feel want to talk just message me okay

Hi tl6565.

Oprah (the talk-show-queen of US) also did this:

Find a little (nice book if that is important to you) book. Start to write each day 3 things that you are thankful for, f.eks. : Teeth to chew your bread, the bread at your table, feet so you can moove. (It might be a fight for you). I think to be positive/thankful is the same. So the next day you find 3 more things to write. To be positive/thankful is a state of mind. Again; it will be a fight for you.

Love Helga.

@tl6565 Advice that I've come across is to actually give up on trying to control these thoughts. Sometimes, when you try to control your thoughts or try not to think about something, you end up thinking about it more and it just makes you more upset that you can't stop.

Instead, acknowledge these thoughts, and then let them go. This is obviously not always easy and is something that can require a lot of practice.

Another tip is, instead of ignoring them, question them. When your brain says "Hey, this horrible thing is going to happen." Just respond with. "Well, what if it doesn't and everything is fine?"

I have this same problem very often, and I know that negative thoughts can be difficult to deal with. I hope that it gets better for you. =)

@tl6565 I deal with this as well on a reguar basis. I have told myslef I should not feel this way and that it isn't most likely going to happen that way. At least in my head I feel that no matter what happens i have probably came up with a worse case scenarion in my head. I have found that I just need to allow myslef to think through it and journaing helps me alot. Then I have started aasking myslef if this happened what would be the worst case scenario?
