Was this a panic attack?
Hi! So the reason I'm starting this forum is because, at my new job, they're having a party in a few days, and since I don't know any of my coworkers too well I'm worried it may happen again if I go (which I honestly don't plan to, for other reasons).
So about a year ago, I went to this three day camp where we were all sort of expected to make really good friendships instantly (3 days). Most people there had been there before, so they already had friend groups. Due to my shyness and stuff, I didn't make any friends.
So at the end of this camp, we all sat in a circle in this large room and sang songs about leaving and stuff. And everyone got together in their groups, and I was sort of outside this group of people I had chatted with, not wanting to invade too much. And I looked around and realized that I was the only person there with no one to talk to, and suddenly I got this feeling like someone had a vice-grip around my throat, and had an uncontroblable sobbing, and my heart was pounding. I tried to stay unnoticed, since if someone saw me I knew it would be worse. I wanted to leave but that would have drawn attention too. For the next hour, until everyone was leaving, I was barely holding it together.
This was unlike any anxiety I had had before, and hasn't happened since.
I was wondering if you think this was a panic attack? At the time, I didn't know about that term, but now I look back and think it possibley was. However, I was about to hold it together (just barely, cause no one noticed it) and not show visible signs (like crying or shacking), so I really doubt it was a real panic attack. So do you think it was?
