Work anxiety

September 12th, 2016

I can't bring myself to go to work. I called in sick Friday and I have a blood test today so not in. But the thought of going to work fills me with dread, all I want to do is cry, my legs get shaky and I can't eat.

My girlfriend thinks I should get signed off for a week or so to give me time to clear my head but I don't know how to explain it to the Dr without it sounding like I'm blowing it all out of proportion.

I just don't know.

Sometimes, I have the same feeling of not getting up from bed and preparing myself for another work day, especially Mondays. And when I am already at work, I feel like not being able to carry through the day: that I will fail or make some boo boo at work or may not accomplish what I'm supposed to do. When already in the process of doing the day's task, I can relate what I'm going through to a car that is being started until it's in full blast and then the momentum is on. Once the car reached its destination, then it comes to a complete halt and I'd be back to a balanced state. And the next day, the process goes on the same. I believe work anxiety is a common experience. But the frequency in which this is being felt and the ability of one being able to overcome it will be where the problem will set in. If this problem persists, then it's time to have a reality check. What are the factors that affect you, and hence lead you to experiencing this emotion? A) Are you happy with the work that you do?; B) Does your personality fit with your job or vice versa?; C) What are your work expectations? Are your goals realistic?; or D) Simply, you are burned out and may need a change of career or work environment (But of course, it's not always the solution as you need not hop from one job to another every time you feel like so). These are just some thoughts that come into my mind when I am experiencing work anxiety. The reasons may be inexhaustible. My insights may also not be relevant for some. But it always pays to analyze your career needs/goals. Being attacked with this kind of emotions in the workplace is not a negative thing, I guess but a tap on your shoulder, telling you "Hey, pause, breathe, think, listen to your inner self., then act accordingly."
