depersonalization/derealization
hello there
i'm having some kind of depersonalization stuff for a couple days. especially at night, suddenly i feel like i'm going to have a panic attack and like i'm going to lose my mind.
for some time, the reality doesn't exists for me and i feel like i lost my control over myself. anyone having the same situation or knowing how to deal with it?
@langueautonome
Hi Langueautonome ! It is nice to meet you :)
Yes ! I know exactally what you are talking about. Earlier this year I went to a therapist. Originally it was for social anxiety and depersonalization. While doing therapy, They thought that antidepressants would help my Anxiety ( Zoloft ) and it did help tremendously.
If you do any research on Depersonalization, you will quickly learn there really is no cure for it. The therapy is mostly centered around gaining insight into what triggers it, as well as some coping strategies for it. Despite there being no cure for it, I do have to say that I dont experience it anymore. It has been an effort that includes incorporating daily mindfulness as well as managing my anxiety. Obviously everyone will be different, but if you ever need to talk about this more in-depth, feel free to message me. Take care !
@ChirpCheep Thank you for your answer, ChirpCheep. I am having therapy but this is an issue i am not used to have. I'm going to talk about it to my therapist asap.
I see, there's no cure for it... It just happens to me when i'm having a strong attack and then it just goes away... I know, it's just a phase that will be gone in hours but I really effects me even in a minute.
I'm happy you are better now!
@langueautonome
I really think you are on the right path !! I had struggled with it for years, but talking to your therapist about it will help immensely:)
This is why I came here. I am having almost identical issue.
It feels like I am a very unsturdy house on a beach and a hurricane is battering me every night. I feel like I am very close to collapsing mentally, and the feeling creates more anxiety and I get locked into a spiral.
My coping mechanisms at this time just involve talking to friends to bring me back to reality a little bit, and having them try to make me laugh and distract me, but they are getting weary of it, Im sure...
I am trying various supplements to make me relaxed so the anxiety has less chance to creep in. I also try to do things that require a lot of logic so my mind is pulled away from any emotional based thinking. Doing multiplication tables, going on Duolingo, sodoku, trying to learn a small task like how to draw a bird or do an origami. This sometimes helps, because I view the attack as a wave that I need to let pass.
In the midst of it, it feels like it could possibly never pass and you will be stuck feeling that way or worse, lose sanity entirely. @langueautonome
Hello, Kaye089!
Thank you for letting me know I'm not alone in this.
I did some research and saw that this thing happens when you're in extreme panic and totally natural. Every people are having this at least for once in their life when they're anxious, paniced, scared or sleepless.
Unfortunately, as anxiety-having people, we always do feel the great panic so we're having this. I'm over it for now, but I do have it every night.
Some psychiatrists say that your brain locks itself because there is only two things they do: Recalling the past and stressing about future. It tells you that you made big mistakes, and you have to feel bad about them. And at the same time, it makes you think about "what if it happens again?!" kind of questions.
This is why the brain locks itself. This is why we feel that way. Just tell yourself everything is OK and you're NOT driving crazy.
If you're looking for someone to keep company with, I'm just a message away.
