12 year Crush Anxiety...Help!

I thought that I met my "person" in high school, I had the biggest crush on him. Finally, the summer before my senior year, I had gained the courage to write him how I really felt (old school snail mail). However, long story short, between my friends bombarding him with hints and prank calling, and me being shy about the whole situation, let's just say it didn't end well. He basically said via email that I needed to grow up and mature.

Since then, I had tried my best to bury that in the deepest parts of my memory. Yet, these past two years he is all I think about. I am so afraid to reach out to him to at least reestablish a friendship that I don't know what to do. It's obvious I'm still harboring feelings for him, but I'm freezing up when it comes to the action of reaching out.
