Hey, don't beat yourself up over this, it isn't pathetic or odd at all. What you are describing is actually quite a common thing, I struggled with the exact same thing when I was younger but it wasn't solely when I had to urinate, it was whenever I had to go to the toilet. Have you thought of/tried anything to try and reduce this behaviour?

This is not pathetic an odd at all. I think a lot of people have this problem. I know I did when I was younger. I actually ended up with UTI as a kid because of it. It was very hard for me to urinate in public bathrooms or any unfamilar bathroom really (like a friends house). I would basically tense up and not be able to relax my muscles enough to urinate. I would be in the bathroom forever trying to go or try to "force" the urine out with abdominal contractions (which is not pleasant),

I had to work really hard at learning to "relax" in the bathroom. Practice relaxation techniques and distract myself from thinking about the other people in the bathroom. It took a while (like years) but I now use public restrooms without much difficulty.

So don't give up hope and don't think there's somthing wrong with you.

Bonus Fun Fact: In Japan they manufacture toilets with a "privacy button" that plays sounds or flushing noises to mask the sounds of elimnation. Now if we could only have something like that around here :-) that would be wonderful

Thank you @sealiously and @orangeOwl1462

glad doesnt sound pathetic. Ive tried lot of things to calm anxiety down & to make it not sound like anything like putting load of toilet paper in toilet before but lot of the times it doesnt help and is even hard at home even with my own family around & just fed up. Thinking about seeing my gp but too embarrassed

I totally understand but there is no need to be embarassed and I'm sure that your GP would say the same if you explained that to them. These people are trained to deal with situations/issues like these, it's so common and they've probably had many patients come to them with the same issue that it's just a normal day at the office for them! wink

hey it's not strange at all. :) i've been through something a bit similiar in the past and i've heard many other people share similar situations.

i'm not really sure if this would work, but maybe you could try listening to music with headphones or something while you use public bathrooms, just so that you can't hear yourself or other people? whenever i struggled with something like this, i tried to distract myself with other things, like singing a song in my head or trying to see how many lines i could recite from my favorite book. at home maybe you could try to turn on the faucet or shower, which might block out the sound.

also, don't be embarrassed about asking your gp for help! they might have some tips and it's probably more common than you expect it to be. i know lots of people who don't like using public bathrooms or using toilets around other people because of this.

(I am the original poster)

i am so so sad that my account got banned for this a few days ago. I was speaking to a verified listener and then my account got deactivated and was really upsetting and felt really pathetic and think she thought it was pathetic or not genuie anxiety. I filled out that form but taking forever. It really upset me and feel so pathetic

@straightforwardField6651

Don't say no one cares. Nine times out of ten when I post on here no one responds and most of the time its because people just don't see it (I only get notified half the time when a new post pops up, some kind of glitch with the site. I think it works better in the app). But it's not that no one cares. I just read this a second ago and I completely agree (though usually I don't even go to the bathroom because I hate having people see me go... isn't that pathetic? I'm scared that people will know I'm just doing what everybody's gotta do...). I hate using other people's bathrooms, public bathrooms, and I absolutely HATE it when a bathroom doesn't have a fan (if it doesn't, I run the tap the whole time). So you're not pathetic.

I'm not sure what happened with your listener; perhaps there was some misunderstanding. I'm fairly new to 7cups so I'm not really up on how these things work. But don't feel pathetic, and don't give up. People care. You matter, and there is help available. If you feel like this is negatively affecting your life, don't be afraid to go see your GP for suggestions. I know he/she will be happy to help, and probably has heard it all before. Hang in there :)
