Dealing with changes when you have anxiety
I just turned 18 last month & I have social anxiety. I graduated high school a year early bc I had no friends & I hated it there. Ive spent the past year wasting my life away in isolation. Rarely leaving the house. I know this has to change, & Ive been trying to make my life better. I have to get a job soon, its really not an option, I need money. Ive never held a job before. I worked at a couple fast food places, but I never stayed longer than a couple weeks mainly bc of anxiety. Im trying to get a job now & Im actually doing okay. I had an interview Friday & I actually went which is a start bc in the past Ive just flaked on any interview I got. But I went. & I have another interview coming up in a couple days. Soon I will have a job & thats a big change which kinda overwhelms me. On top of this, I plan on starting college in January. Yet another big change. The thought of all these changes has been overwhelming me & ive been having anxiety attacks over it. Just stressing over little things like I always do like how my interview will go & if Ill pick the right classes. I dont want to take on too much at once. I dont want to make my anxiety worse & I know how stressful college can be. I think Ill just start out taking two classes this semester, that way I wont be too overwhelmed & I can still get some college experience. Taking only two classes seems kinda slackerish but I have to think about my mental health. Anyways Im kinda just ranting, emptying my head.
Hey there @arealmermaid *hugs* (if you are okay with virtual hugs, that is)
Welcome here! It is nice to see you around! :)
You know big changes are always scary and these are indeed big changes in your life that you have to make and it is okay to be anxious and I think you are doing awesome job so far!
First af all, amazing job taking on that interview, I know those are scary, but you did it, and you did it well. I mean how awesome is that? :)
I am sure you will do just as well on your following interviews, I do believe in you! You can do it!
I do not think it is "slackerish" to take only two classes, considering your anxiety. I mean if it is anything I would think it is pretty thoughtful of you, and honestly that is important, and I thought you are making the right decision. After all, you know yourself the best, and if you feel like more would be just overwhelmning then you have every right to take only two classes and you should not feel bad about it at all in my opinion.
Joining here is also, I think, a big and amazing step, and I am proud of you! - I mean, trust me, I know it is scary to join here as well. :)
I hope things will work out for you, but anyhow, don't foget that we - this place - if here for and with you! You are not alone in this!
You can do it! I believe in you 110%! :) +-10% :P
