Developing stutter
Hey, I was wondering if my newly developed stutter could be caused by the depression/anxiety episode from which i finally recovered (mostly) after 3 years of struggle. I didn't have any problem speaking before, I just noticed it recently. It also happens occasionally, not all the time.
I stuttered for awhile when I was younger and it's kinda gone away and only comes back when I'm nervous or anxious.
@purplekillerbunny
FINALLY someone mentioned this!
I have the exact same thing and is a constant struggle :(
Thank you for aproaching the subject though
I've noticed that I seem to struggle more to get words out lately too. Sometimes I'll accidentally swap the first letters of two words around and then get tangled up. It's so awkward so I try and laugh it off.
The only thing I've found that works for me is to not look at the person, sometimes it's the eye contact which puts me off so if I'm doing something else then I stutter and get tongue tied less often. I'm just so focused on getting my entire sentence out at once that it becomes verbal vomit.
I stutter when I am anxious sometimes!
I've had this problem as well haha, well, still do actually. When I have to talk to anyone face to face or in groups, and feel like everyone is focusing on me. My eyes dart around to avoid looking at anyone for more than a second, and my words get all sorts of jumbled and almost refuse to come out. Didn't developed this until was in 7th grade or so when my anxiety really started to show. I did have a job though where i was forced to talk to people face to face every day all day, and it got a lot better to the point it was i didn't really do it, but when i started my new job, I talk less with people and have reverted back into the stammering ways. So I guess, it could be a practised skill to overcome?
