How to build a support network when you have SA

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had tips on building an emotional support network for people with SA. I also have really bad relationships with nuclear family. I am thinking about reaching out to people like aunts/cousins. I don't currently attend church/religious services but I could start I guess. This site for meeting cuddle buddies has helped me a lot because it's kind of nonverbally clear we need close friends/are lonely. The hardest part is sometimes people suggest things like "have you tried joining a club" and I'm like "you don't understand, i have social anxiety." It's hard to go from a random club to someone who could drive me to the ER. Maybe an anxiety support group or something...

Hello Daydreamer47 Sorry to hear you are having a tough time with your anxiety. I worry a lot when I have to go somewhere new and then once I am there I tend to be alright. I would much rather be where I am comfortable. I attend Church regularly and it is a good place for me, I have come to know people there and it is a positive message. I will be praying for you. God Bless

@sal202 Thanks. Are you able to develop close friendships with people at Church? For me it is very intimidating to go from a group of complete strangers to close friends. I guess it takes time and being direct?

@Daydreamer47

It is a little easier to develop friendships at Church because you start out having a similar worldview. Everyone is there because they share the same beliefs. A lot of the people are very friendly and welcoming and Friendships develop. It is one place that I feel comfortable. You have to do what is comfortable for you, I rather you be comfortable then have an anxiety attack. Have a Great day
