Trapped in a small town :(
I have really bad social anxiety and anxiety in general i think. Ive lived in a very very small town my entire life. Ive gone to school with the same group of people since kindergarden and everyone knows everyone. You cant cough without someone two towns over talking about it.
Im 20 years old now and Im on my 3rd "gap year" if that what you even wanna call it at this point. I dont have a job, im not in school, i dont even have my license because of my anxiety. Im terrified of all the people i went to school with because of how awful i had it in middle school into high school. If i get a job, ill have to work with all these people i went to school with. If i go to university here, itll just be another 4 years of high school with all the same people i went to high school with. I want to go away for school but then theres a whole different kind of anxiety surrounding that idea because Im scared to live on my own.
I just wish that my family could pick everything up and move far far away.Of course I dont wanna ask my whole family to move away just for me but at the same time, theres nothing tying us here. Not even theyre jobs. And I know my brother would love the idea of moving as well. I feel completely trapped here and i definietely dont want to spend my entire life here and i just dont know how to go about it.
This may sound unconventional, but hav you considered joining the Peace Corps. You'd be away from that Town. Doesn't require you hav money. You'll be provided food and shelter. You'd get to experience a foreign culture, and quite possibly grow as a person. It's not permanent. And its doing something Positive (making the world a better place) It looks good on a Job Resume also. Certainly wouldn't hurt to look into it, and explore the option

Hi:) I read your situation and I'm sorry you're feeling that way about your small town... I wish it was better for you but I can understand how small towns can be really like a trap that you can't get out of. I don't know what to suggest to you... anxiety can be a tough thing to overcome. Have you thought of seeing a professional?
