how did you overcome the fear of therapists?
hi everyone ill be short this time. i think i may have social anxiety (i always call it like that but I've never been diagnosed) and because of that i can't see a therapist. only thinking about me talking about my problems and myself face to face with another human being scares me so damn much, but at the same time only a psychologist can help me. i got some advices here on 7cups and i think they could work, but i would like to know your personal experiences if you're cool with that
@WittyCar0607 I've also dealt with social anxiety and some other barriers to working with a therapist, including previous negative experiences, but I now have a really wonderful supportive solid therapeautic relationships with a therapist. What worked for me was doing extensive research. I used this site: https://www.psychologytoday.com/ and searched a lot of parameters to make sure that the therapists I interviewed were compatible with my values and what I needed and I ended up going with the first one I interviewed! Do remember that you don't have to stick with the first one though -- you can try out a few different therapists and find someoe who works for you. I also found it helped me to write out some of my issues beforehand to either read from or just give to the therapist to overcome some of the initial difficulty talking to a stranger about difficult topics. I hope you find someone who works for you and I hope these ideas were helpful!
