Curious and feeling misunderstood
I have a question
When you were a child were there not many symptoms until you got older?
Also have you masked your whole life and people around you thought you were normal? Even you were in denial.
Also you were the quiet shy one but also had adhd?
I feel like I’m noticing more and more signs now that I am older. After working as a habilitation tech and van aide I see similarities and thought I was just over reacting or even people thought I would over react. My stems are so bad that I cover it up and blame it on my anxiety, stress and adhd. Another thing is that I have central auditory processing disorder, adhd, receptive/expressive language disorder, major depression, history of self harm. But these all seem to be under the same umbrella. I just hid it so well even masked my whole life just to fit in. I have these weird behaviors and make it like it’s not me and it’s other people over reacting. I really wouldn’t know but if this was the case that I am it’s something I need to accept. My step brother has the same thing but his is more visible than mine. I’m not to sure if it is genetic or know anyone else in my family that has it because I am adopted and my birth mom keeps using ridiculous words instead of actually giving me actual facts or exactly what my step brother has. Anyways I am getting a neurological evaluation for my mental illness but definitely want to bring up these issues and questions up to get a better diagnosis. Even that would just add more triggers maybe but hopefully there is a light at the end of this. Just learn to cope and navigate through it.
I forgot to mention these are the signs of what I deal with and not only what you read…
- picking hair,
- stimming,
- staring
- talking to self like someone is there or I use myself as a 3rd person
- Mood swings
- enjoy sex and some change off and on
- hesitate alot and cant figure out what to do in tense situations or just cant make up their mind on a regular basis
- ghost people and then act normal after like nothing happened
- Certain sounds can be triggering or annoying
- Music isn’t that bad
- Light I am very sensitive
- come out more with allergies my stims show more espesially when masking
Yep hidden it my whole life. Only a close friend sees who I really am plus the only one that noticed me stimming the ticks i have plus I bite my nails right down which was the first thing noticed. I have trained myself. Even tho inside it’s on the edge. The job I have has a lot of people with ocd so they don’t notice which helps a lot lol.
Hi, I've actually been considering to be tested for autism. I've always felt like the world was too loud and too much for me. I remember how my kindergarten teacher was the only one out of all the teachers that I've had, realize that something was "wrong" or special about me. My mother has always said that me and my sisters were "normal" growing up and actually exceptional at everything that we would do. A couple years back I got with my current boyfriend and he's noticed some patterns that I have that would hint to possible autism symptoms. He's autistic himself but his are high functioning. Maybe mine is too? Should I ask my therapist about it?
