My step daughter is 6 years old and is none verbal she is always trying to stay positive and keeps achieving goals and she’s amazing lil girl but her dad he doesn’t understand what to do with kids who have autism. I am hearing negative things and not so positive things about the girlfriend and if I was him I would have kept me there and he would have been much happier but no he decided last minute to get rid of me. That was stupid ok his part no lie but oh well he learn one day.

I think the only way to help an autistic child to have a happy and fulfilling life, is to seek professional support services. Even with that, there can be difficult times. I have an autistic granddaughter. Up until around age 6, she was nonverbal, but would cry and sometimes scream. It's a traditional belief that those with autism have a hard time understanding the emotions of others. In her case, she was extremely sensitive to them, so if someone who was feeling bad entered the room, she would start crying or run and hide.

She began saying words, but really couldn't form sentences, so it sounded more like "word salad." She received lots of therapy and support, including attending special classes. These days, she communicates quite well. She still has difficulty with environments that contain a lot of stimulation. She wears ear protection as a matter of course. However, she is an absolute genius when it comes to online gaming! I think communicating with other gamers has helped her tremendously.

I'm pretty sure that if she did not receive the kind of support she did, she'd still be nonverbal, and not able to do very much.

Her dad needs to learn immediately how to manage her needs, not just "one day" sometime in the future.
