Noise/language processing issues with sensory overload

When talking with another person, it takes me a second to process what they have said and come up with a response, does anyone else experience this? I'm also dealing with sensory overload where loud music or a lot of people talking over each other and there are 12 different conversations at once I have to leave the room for a minute because the anxiety is so intense. Has anyone else experienced this?

Absolutely!

I had never considered that the "few seconds to process speech" could be an autism thing; I am so glad you brought it up! Sometimes it takes me longer than others, especially when stressed or tired. I am accused of not listening a lot in fast paced environments and by impatient people. Despite how fast I am told I walk and generally accomplish tasks, I hate feeling rushed.

More times than not I shock people after I've processed their questions and come up with a response. I've never understood why. Someone once told me my response was "too fast" after I had taken maybe ten seconds to process their words. When I pointed that out, they admitted I had a point, but my reponse was "too short". I've also been told my responses sound "too assured" as well. Does the same thing happen to anyone else?

I feel sensory overload all the time! I hate when crowds are big enough to hold multiple conversations, but not so big that all the conversations become white nosie. White-noise-crowds can still be hard to manage, especially on a rough day, but I can handle them better. Crowds are one of the things that cause shutdowns frequently for me, so I have to choose my venues and schedule my outings wisely
