Signs
Hello! So I’m a 31 year old and I have adhd but I’m trying to know the signs of autism as an adult. I’ve always thought I was a little different and being diagnosed with adhd as an adult made a lot of sense on how my childhood was. My daughter is autistic and I think part of it came from her dad since he has a brother who’s also autistic. But I know probably some part is me as well. But I want to know what am I looking for? I know the signs for adhd but not sure about autism, especially in adults. I know you could get tested but or seen by a professional to really know, but I want to see if I even experience any of those signs first before I speak to a professional.

Hi, I'm an AuDHDer and it took me a while to get my head around being autistic. The ADHD side of me made sense immediately but it was harder to figure out my autistic side.
I think because autism is a bigger spectrum it can be hard to pin down exactly what being autistic means. I read lots of different autistic experiences and talked to my autistic friends and family to get an understanding of the ways it shows up for me.
I think some commonalities include things like
- struggling with changes in routines (in big ways or tiny ways like how to eat a jaffa cake)
- intense interests that consume you (even if it's not for long cuz ADHD brain)
- feelings not understanding social rules or norms, or questioning rules and wanting/needing to understand something deeply
- sensory difficulties
Hope that helps, I'd be happy to pull a reading list together if that would be helpful.
