Spectrum possibility ?
Hey guys,
I’m 20 years old and I’ve recently realized that I strongly align with the female autistic profile. I took some self-assessment tests and scored 82/100, which honestly felt like a huge relief and explained so much about my life.
I wanted to share my main traits here to see if anyone else relates to this specific mix:
Sensory & Social Overload: Places with loud music, flashing lights, and crowds (like clubs) completely drain my nervous system. I get overwhelmed fast and need a lot of alone time afterward to reboot.
Involuntary Mimicry (Accents/Dialects): I automatically and completely unconsciously pick up and mimic accents, dialects, or vocal tones from people around me or from movies. It just slips out naturally.
Heavy Masking: I always feel like I'm "playing a role" in social situations to fit in, which is exhausting.
Strict Routines: I need my days and weekends structured. Unexpected changes to my plans trigger a lot of anxiety and internal chaos.
Literal Thinking: I take things very literally and honestly. I often struggle with hidden motives or casual teasing, which leads to annoying misunderstandings.
Deep Hyperfocus: When I love a topic, I can dive into it for hours, focusing on tiny details that others miss.
Severe Phone Anxiety: Spontaneous phone calls scare me; I 100% prefer texting.
Small Circles: I feel safe only around 1-2 close friends, large groups just don't work for me.
My family and neurotypical friends often think I'm just being "weird" or doing it on purpose, which is really isolating. I'm hoping to get an official diagnosis soon, but for now, I just want to chat with people who actually get it.
Does anyone else experience that automatic accent mimicry or find themselves totally burned out by neurotypical expectations? Would love to hear your thoughts!
@dynamicTortoise550
You are absolutely not weird or making things up.
And you are simply trying your best to navigate your way through some difficult situations.
I hope anyone who has been given an official diagnosis might share their experiences with you.
Welcomed to cups 🤗 🩷

Hello where did you get the austism self assessment test?
Hi dynamicTortoise550 I to have these traits and if you want my advice maybe you should see a doctor and get a note so that can help your family and friends to understand and clearly up any misunderstandings.
Hope this helps 😊
I definitely relate to all of those points
I masked hard for so many years and now I practically can't. It's too hard and I did it for too much of my life but not having the ability does have its downsides as well. That being said, I would not trade it.
