What Do You Wish People Knew About Autism?
List it out! <3
Mine would be...
Autism doesn't make me dumb. It makes me poor at social skills, but I could run circles around you on certain topics I hyperfocus on! lol! Also, my mind makes me look at things in a mathematical manner (visually dividing things into parts, or bouncing an imaginary ball off the different angles of things and figuring out the trajectory, etc), which is kinda cool. :)
Your turn! :)
- Personally, I wish that people would stop viewing autism as such an obstacle in so many ways like in communication the only thing you might need to change to talk to someone with autism is the amount you assume or if not at least ask, like for example like the previous comment mentioned if they aren't looking at you and you don't understand why just ask, it's probably not a big deal.
- Autism shouldn't affect how you treat someone at all, if it does then maybe you need to treat neurotypical people better or vice versa.
- Accommodations aren't such a big deal, its just a fancy word anyone can get "accommodations" for example sometimes people are in a situation where they can't do the work at home, now I know that's not the same, for people with autism it isn't temporary and the cause might not be other people/situation but it might be overstimulation or something if you don't think accommodations are fair then you've just missed the whole point they are there to make it fair not to give someone "special treatment"
Accepting/ supporting my autism means UNDERSTANDING it first, this would allow me to unmask. So many people in my life know I have ASD but get irritated or act negatively when I show signs of autism. I also suffer with OCD (the two often overlap so i got the premium package deal) and I have a lot of weird traits like washing my hands 3 times in a row, not liking people sitting on my bed or touching my things, using certain cutlery or appliances, eating certain foods, etc but for some reason people roll their eyes, make faces or comment on these things when I do them as if I'm purposefully going out of my way to be difficult/ annoying I'm not, I don't choose these things, they come with my disability. You wouldn't be upset if a deaf person couldn't hear you, why am I any different!!!
I also hate societies perception of ASD. I want to be able to tell people about my diagnosis to explain some of my behaviour as well as to help me receive support, but it's so difficult with bullying and controversy nowadays. It's exhausting masking all the time, millions of ASD people all over the world would benefit from education and awareness for autism.

For those who are worried about clicking the link, this just talks about the diet and how it affects autism(I have absolutely no clue if its fake or not, that's up to your judgement).
I pasted the link so that it can't be edited by the original owner to use my comment to verify a false link, if the link is different don't use either of the links because then there is only one person stating they are trustworthy. I really hope this link doesn't change somehow
