46 Truths

Welcome all!

As a mental health advocate (and patient), I am beginning to read more and more articles that shed light on the truth about mental illness. As we learn how to weave this new vocabulary into our daily exchanges, however inaccurate, at the very least we are talking about it. That said, it is a common occurrence that those (of us) living with psychological enthusiasm often encounter those who simply do not (or can not) understand the illness(es), and the toll it takes on (our) daily lives. Let this space be a place to discuss the truth and debunk the myths about mood disorders.

I super identify with the second article entry. I often feel like my skin is crawling, or I need to crawl out of it. It's a very unpleasant sensation that lingers for hours, even days. Glad and sad I'm not the only one.

@MrAleczander

Mhm, I often experience a fear of abandonment and being smothered simultaneously. Many people often forget to indicate the latter. This only reinforces the importance of distinguishing dialectical thinking and the behavior that follows. More than one thing can in fact be true at once, even opposing forces.

Hey everyone. i was just wondering if anyone experiences feeling over medicated once being diagnosed bipolar? I was diagnosed once I was hospitalized and so I didnt have a choice on taking medication and it has just snowballed out of control ( i was taking like 10 pills a day!). I had to go outside of the healthcare field and just stop taking it all so I could start all over again and see what I really need. I feel like I am finally working towards being my own advocate and rationally working towards identifying what tools will help me manage my intense mood swings..... I may need the meds, who knows, but if I do need them, after this I will be comfortable putting them in my body.

@christina44

I can definitely relate to this. I was so reluctant to start medication because I had only my previous experiences to base it on. I was hospitalized when I was fifteen and was diagnosed with general depression, anxiety, and paranoia however this was never lumped into a complete diagnosis. It has taken me ten years to receive answers and treatment. And having gone through my first medication trial this month I have experienced both relief and exacerbation of my manic depression diagnosis. I can see why it's so easy to feel so suddenly discouraged. I can even see why people opt to discontinue their meds entirely. However, I am trying my best to stick it out until I find the right balance for me. I would say I am generally optimistic although I read everything, and was recently tempted to discontinue having suffered a horrible depressive episode this week.

I will say it's definitely worth the effort to experience relief alone in my case. I have been greatly disabled by my symptoms which only grew worse with time. However, I definitely encourage you to advocate for yourself and speak openly with your practitioners about what is best for you.

I hope you find relief. <3

Is everyone here bipolar?

Are we free to talk about meds, dosages, supplements, etc?

@braveKitten4951

I can only speak for myself. I was recently diagnosed with Mixed Manic Depression which basically means I am constantly in a mixed state meaning I experience symptoms from both poles of this spectrum disorder simultaneously.

I do believe we can discuss medications here, but not in the chat rooms. I will do some more digging on this, as this is a topic I would really love to discuss.

@braveKitten4951

I have reviewed the Listener Community Guidelines.

Here you can find Forum Guidelines under the third header. No where on this list does it ban specific discussion topics, so I don't see why we can't discuss the various forms and efficacy/inefficacy of medications, mindfully of course.

Please visit the link above for a refresher if you are unsure about behaviors or consequences pertaining to the 7 Cups community in general, and the Support Forum specifically.
