The low
Hi
In a depressive low and finding it extremely difficult to do the things that help lift this. Leaving my room feels impossible and im just numbing w podcasts. What has helped others? Typucally swimming, seeing friends and routine help me out but i feel paralized to act.
@Cseeks2025 I'm very sorry to hear you're going through this right now, Seeks. Depressive lows can feel very paralysing and debilitating, where the only thing we want to do is to self-soothe, or numb, our way through them. Sometimes, we can only do what we can do and if you're finding podcasts helpful, I can suggest one that specifically addresses mood disorders - The Feeling Good podcast by David Burns. Dr Burns has written a lot about overcoming depression, and says that it's easier to act your way towards feeling different, than to try to feel differently towards how you act. What small aspect of your routine could you reintroduce? Can you reach out to a friend, even if it's just a quick message? Very small acts of mastery go a long way towards changing our cognitions. Please know that you can always reach out to this community and check in with us. Hoping you're able to find a way to navigate through this, Seeks.
It will come back around to be as good as it was bad. Wow, whatever at all will take you through the nightmare low, you can thankfully be helped to a dream. Just work baby step by baby step. In the end, you will look back very pleased, but it’s bad now, no doubt.
What I always hear peoe say about getting out of depressions lack of motivation is to make a list and do small tasks through the day and maybe those will help you get out of your rut.
I'm not bi polar but I definitely have some mood issues along with schizophrenia. It's hard to get started on things but once you check a few things off the list you feel a little better and more motivated. Also I've found that when im down and working on projects doing something really well gets my motor going . So if you do the task do them to the best of your ability so you feel a little pride in you work?
