When People Begin to Notice Changes

Hey all,

Since I've started my meds a few people have commented on how "calm" -or neutral- I've become. Has this ever happened to you? Have people in your life commented on your demeanor in a positive or negative way? How do you feel about these observations?

Sincerely,

Blithe

Hello. I'm not on any meds ir anything but for some reason on the other I've developed a really sarcastic personality. So much so that I'm that "sarcasm guy".

Also, I have RBF (look in urban dictionary if you don't know) and the equivalent of RBF in terms of voice tone.

So few people can really tell when I'm being mean, funny, honest or neutral and it does lead to diffculties some times.

Good point! I have had consequences for my dry sense of humor. People often find it difficult to differentiate if I am being truthful or comedic. Once I had to write a carefully worded letter to upper management in attempt to dismiss an understanding over something I said. The struggle is real.

I have had a few people comment on my behaviors before and it just makes me feels embarrassed because a lot of the time I am unaware of them. If anything, it just makes me feel like more of a burden on those around me. If I think about it too much then I get scared friends will leave me.

My family and close friends started to notice that I got a lot quieter, calmer, a lot less outbursts, but it was difficult because although they made me calmer, I lost my personality. The meds didn't work for me and I ended up feeling hollow. I couldn't feel anything and my family and close friends started to notice that and were concerned. I kept using them for months because I believed that feeling this way is better than ruining my relationships and my life with my extreme ups and downs. It wasn't until my parents told me to get off them because they were starting to interfere with my academics that I finally stopped. I am going to talk to my psychiatrist about switching medications soon.

Guys, I know this is obvious, but I just wanted to remind those who are feeling desperate and like there's no other choice (because trust me I have been there) that even if the meds you're on make you more neutral or more calm, please please please remember to take into consideration how they're making you feel. The pills I took made me sleepy all the time and made me feel like I couldn't even feel anything and that feeling of not being able to access my feelings made me agitated and restless and depressed. I felt completely out of control of my own emotions and my own self. So for those of you who are just starting medication, don't get hung up on the outward results of the medication--remember that this is to help you and there are many options out there for you.
