Dear Readers,

For many of us a diagnosis can leave us with many questions. We may feel lost, overwhelmed, relieved or that something is wrong with us. Fortunately, there are resources out there to help us feel less along in our healing journey. The Depression Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) offers in-person support groups in various zip codes across the U.S. that are completely free and anonymous. I have been attending mind on Thursday nights for several years and when the going gets tough, it truly helps me regain my footing. You can learn more about this initiative and find a support group in your area by visiting the DBSA Support Group Finder tool.

Discussion topics:

Have you ever participated in a group support setting? What was your experience like?

Do you find group support to be more or less beneficial than 1-on-1 therapy?

What do you hope to gain from group support dynamics?

What is one thing you wish people understood better about group therapy settings?

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this topic as we strive to build a stronger sense of community here on 7 Cups! ❤

@blitheSun94

Thank you for bringing this great opportunity to our awareness!

I think whether group support is less/more beneficial than individual therapy depends on the individual and what they are struggling with. For someone, group support might be the best option because they need to hear the stories of others and they need hope that these stories can give them. Moreover, sometimes group setting can give the individual sense of belonging that speeds up the healing process.

You’re most welcome! Very well said, indeed. I have always benefited more greatly from the peer support model myself which makes resources like DBSA (and 7 Cups!) all the more important. Thanks for your reply!

This is one of my favorite resources. Does anyone else have any resources they would like to share?
