Going off meds

Hi.

So I've been thinking of going off of my meds recently because I just don't like who they've made me become. I don't ever really feel happy, I don't enjoy things I use to and I feel like a whole part of me is missing.

I used to be really creative. I would write and draw and decorate from my own imagination and now I can't access that part of myself.

I know the meds are doing their job by stabilizing my moods and minimizing the symptoms, but I wanted to get my old self back.

I've been on my current dosage of meds for a over year now and frankly I don't feel like playing the long game of trial and error anymore.

I also want to say that no I'm not going to simply stop. I am going to talk to both my therapist and psychiatrist about it.

I really would like to know what people's experiences have been going off their meds.

Do you feel more like your oldself?

Do you feel like the old you is just dead, gone and lost forever?

Do you feel better or worse?

Do you think it's best to just keep trying new cocktails of meds until something feels right?

Well I imagine everybody you talk to will tell you a different story when it comes to meds.. I simply can't live without the meds.. My cognitive skills do take a significant hit but It is a good tradeoff to the alternative of having insomnia,  paranoia, and delusions.  Be sure to check out the song 🎵  "Vitamin R" by Chevelle as it falls in line with your way of thinking..🌲

I feel like the meds I'm on do nothing to hurt me compared to previous ones, but I recommend gently trying to ease yourself off them and maybe trying a different mood stabilizater such as haloperidol, lamotregene, or paliperidol, or risperidone in the meanwhile? Everyone has different reactions to this stuff. We all know from personal experience. So be careful about it, but also kind and try not to worry too much. I hope it goes as well as it can for you!!!! We've all been there <333 be okay as you can be, okay hun?

Thank you for responding.

I just talked to my psychiatrist and she's said that my current meds might not be working anymore since I've been on them for so long and they're all at the max dosage. That's probably what's making me so frustrated right now. She recommended to try something else and see if that makes me feel better. Maybe I'll get that lost part back. Who knows?

I'm going to talk to my therapist when she gets back from her leave. I'll probably make my decision then. So I'll see what happens.
