If I were in a delusion, how would I even know?
I've been thinking recently. Well not exactly recently had this thought since my official diagnosis but still. How would I even know im slipping into a delusion? Since usually at least for me they just feel like natural information, completely normal, so like Id never actually question it. And my recent one made me believe I couldnt trust anyone, and I genuinely cannot distinguish between fact and fiction during those periods. How would I ever know whats real anymore, how can I tell? How do yall with schizophrenia/psychosis distinguish and cope with never being sure whats real and whats not?
@TwoFacedTim I understand that dealing with delusions and questioning reality can be extremely challenging. It's not uncommon for individuals experiencing schizophrenia or psychosis to have difficulty distinguishing between what's real and what's not during these periods. It can be especially tricky when the delusions feel completely natural and normal to you.
One coping strategy is to build a support network that includes trusted friends, family members, or healthcare professionals who can provide a different perspective when you're unsure about the reality of a situation. They can offer a reality check and help you navigate through confusing moments.
Additionally, therapy can be very beneficial. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and other forms of therapy tailored to schizophrenia and psychosis can assist you in identifying and challenging distorted thoughts and beliefs. They can also help you develop coping mechanisms to manage these experiences effectively.
Medication can also play a significant role in managing symptoms. If you haven't already, you can consult with a psychiatrist who can prescribe appropriate medications and monitor their effectiveness for your specific condition.
Keeping a journal or recording your thoughts during moments of doubt can also be helpful. This practice may allow you to reflect on your experiences later when you're in a clearer state of mind.
Remember, reaching out for support is crucial. Don't hesitate to discuss your concerns with your healthcare team, as they can provide valuable insights and guidance.
It's essential to be patient with yourself during this process, as finding what works best for you may take time. Each person's journey is unique, and with the right support, you can develop strategies to cope with the challenges of distinguishing reality from delusion. Take care.
