Proved the ketamine clinic wrong
So I'm currently on once a week maintenance on Spravato. The first 8 weeks are a pre designed plan by the company who makes the drug. And it starts out twice a week for 4 weeks. Then once a week for 4 weeks then maintenance. Which is usually still once a week for a while then might space out. For a while my psychiatrist, who owns his own ketamine clinic in another state, has said this worsening treatment resistant depression may improve if I went back to twice a week for a while. So, basically start the program over. We are hoping to avoid electro convulsive therapy in the upcoming couple of months. The people at my clinic said it was impossible and that insurance would never allow it. Well I'm big on self advocating so I called to ask my insurance company myself. And they said it was ok they just needed a few things. It was a simple protocol the whole time. My psychiatrist has to write a medical necessity letter. And the clinic submit a new prior authorization and a report on how much it will cost. Simple. I think they just didn't want the headache of calling my insurance company...which can be a pain depending on the time of day. Being a self advocate gets things done and done quicker.
