Trying to educate myself and connect
Hey guys, recently had my first psychotic episode that’s been recorded and monitored by doctors.
I’ve realised that I’ve been getting them from aslong as I can remember but everytime I explain that they deny my say and push it onto my past/current drug history.
This was a 2 month long episode regarding spirituality and I’ve been sent to guide a family, triggered by an episode my family member has had who pushed their suicidal tendencies onto me and sent me on a downhill spiral.
I know am picking up on certain things that make me daydream and stare into the void or start doing behavioural things I did growing up.
Anybody else new or experienced in this area that can give me advise or share their story?
My memory is no longer good to me I have found a new love in journaling but I do get psychotic writting episodes but try to keep it a end of day thing
Sorry, I have no idea if it actually sent my reply or if it just got nuked, haha. I’ll retype it to the best of my ability.
I was diagnosed with schizoaffective bipolar type 3 years ago at 19 after my first full blown manic/psychotic episode where I ended up in the psych ward. I don’t remember most of it. It was about 8 months, I think.
I had a religious/spiritual thing that was super intense towards the middle/end, but I wasn’t raised either of those things so it was a bit confusing. It’s been hard to fully get back to my baseline views and ideas about religion/spirituality. I’ve accepted it, some things just stick.
As for the writing, I write a lot during mania/psychosis. I’ve filled up most of a journal in about 2 days because I just can’t stop. It helps because it gets the thoughts and ideas out of my head and into something, but it’s kind of a pain in the *** sometimes. I try my best to break it up throughout the day to avoid messing up my hand/wrist. Not easy, but worth trying. I also notice my handwriting changes depending on my state of mind.
First episodes of psychosis always suck, it was horrible when it first happened to me because I didn’t really know what was going on until it was too late. My best advice for you is try your absolute best to log things that make you feel off/weird/etc. Even minor things. Keep note of sleep, hygiene, food, things that make you feel off, stuff like that.
And always remember that this is your body, and your brain. You have autonomy and control over what you decide to do. If you don’t like a med they put you on, tell them why you don’t like it. See about switching. All up to you, man.
If you have any questions about my experiences or need advice, feel free to let me know and I’ll help the best I can. :-)
can i ask you how did you realize that you've been gettin em from a long time?
I had my first recognizable psychotic episode last year and im trynna educate myself more about it
@MaVanxter Hi. I was undiagnosed bipolar almost all my life. It all makes sense now. I can recall episodes. I think the best thing a person can do is learn about their symptoms, if medication is needed, take it. And work on managing yourself. Letting go of the past is easier said than done, and symptoms are real. Prioritize your mental health. Do the right things, or at least try your best. It all adds up.
