venting/wanting advice
Hello, I’m new to this community and I go by the name Star on here. I guess I wanted to ask the people here when they realized something was wrong and how they started to get help? It’s not confirmed that I’m bipolar, but my mother is and I know it can be passed down. I feel like I may be, and the feelings make me feel super out of control and it’s barely manageable anymore. I can never predict when I’m going to be motivated and on task and when I’ll be depressed and barely be able to get out of bed. I go in streaks like these, sometimes I can sleep great and wake up ready to go or I’ll cry myself to sleep and want to cry again when I have to get up for school or work. There are also several other issues but I won’t rant about all of them. I know my mom would be more than understanding if I talked to her, but I really don’t know how to bring it up. I really do need help, but there’s also my dad who isn’t very supportive with mental health matters. I don’t want to be denied the help I need because of him so bringing it up scares me a bit. Any recommendations of where to start?

I can understand how difficult it is to open up and let people know what is exactly going on within our minds. It's understandable to assume that we might going to get those issues too if it runs in the family. it doesn't have to be true but we certainly dwell on thoughts. you saying "barely get out of bed" part...it is relatable for me and I also did not have anyone around back when I used to feel like that.
I shared my experience here: https://www.7cups.com/forum/bipolar/ShareYourStory_1714/Damageisdonesowhatdowedonow_324816/
thought it might be helpful to you. You can PM me if you want to talk about it. 💖 Take care

I highly suggest talking to your mom about going to your family doctor/GP. That might help your mom, and maybe dad, understand what you're going through. My family didn't understand what bipolar disorder was or how it made me feel or think. So many of them thought I was just making excuses. My mom and I finally sat down, and she read the symptoms and what it feels like inside my head. She cried because she never understood them or knew them. But taking that first step to reach out and get help is the biggest, bravest thing you could do. Don't wait like I did. Even if you think some people might not understand, the impact it has on your life is intense. I got diagnosed at 28 and I've essentially had to rebuild my life from scratch.
We can't diagnose you, but a doctor and therapist can get you on the right track to treatment and healing. You can do this.💜
