I'm thinking of a career in counseling.

Anyone here knows which is the best organisation to award counseling certificates?

Also what factors can one consider before pursuing this field? I'm a caring person. I also have a problem solving mind. But it's not easy for me to process pain. I'm not sure if this would be the right fit for me. I'm thinking about it.

Any thoughts on this career path?

@Creamyyy Hi Creamy! I think you would be an amazing counselor!! I think there are many different types of people that are counselors. I think something to take into consideration is that self-care is so important when you are taking care of so many people because it's not possible to carry all their pain without self-care. It's also important to be able to separate home and work because you don't want to bring it all home either. You need a place to chill. May I ask what country you are in? I think each country will have different schools/requirements that you will need to meet to become a counselor! I hope this helps! Good luck!

@FruityPond7887 thank you for the encouragement. I have the desire to help but I can't say about my abilities. I tried being a listener from my listener account and I don't know if I was helpful. Its one thing to have a good intention but another to have the skills. The care I feel has to translate to the other person - that part is my concern. Maybe they teach these skills in counseling courses, I wonder. Plus there's no point having two people overwhelmed instead of one. I can't watch or hear bad news as I'm very tender hearted and get sad. I don't think it's the right fit for me. I might have to think of some other way of being useful to others.

@Creamyyy I think that if it's something you want, then you should go for it! We have a list of Mentors that can help you practice a mock chat if you'd like! That list can be found here. I think counseling skills can come more easily to some people than others, but they can always be learned! I think 7 Cups is a great way to practice and the more you practice, the easier it gets, I promise! You will get more comfortable as you take more chats and you only have to take topics you are comfortable with too! I hope this helps and keep your head up! ❤️

@Creamyyy If I was you, I'd talk to people in the industry. See which courses they recommend (or not). Look on websites and read the course outlines, see if they'd be a good fit for your interests. Maybe read counselling job ads.
