Feeling stuck- nothing interests me
I just was laid off from my last job. I've been going from job to job I feel like nothing ever sticks. I don't have a degree or anything I feel truly passionate about. I'm afraid to start a new career path and end up hating it, or it not paying good or something and just waste my time and money. I'm 35 yrs old and I feel like I don't really have a purpose and it's quite depressing. I need help/ guidance.

I can really relate, after 5 years in a work place, one year later and I’m on my 4th work place, I was nearly in 5 a few months ago. I’m in the same situation, I don’t have formal qualifications either. One piece of advise I had received, is that it’s better to look for a job while you are in a job, that way you can actually take the time to look at what you want and how you want work to work for you.
i always thought that I needed a career, I needed to be on X amount by this age, but I never found a job that I was passionate about or that had progression like that.
im now on job 4 and it’s boring, the people are nice but it’s boring, a month ago I was about to look for job number 5. But actually after years of slogging and no appreciation and missing my kids grow up, boring is what I need, it’s got the flexibility that I always wanted. It’s a job I can do with my eyes closed so I don’t need to worry where I’m here, and there’s actually nice people who are really understanding.
its doesn’t matter that you don’t have a degree, or you don’t feel passionate about anything in particular, what matters is you get what you need from your job. Ask for the pay rise, ask for the flexibility, the worst thing they can do is say no. Ask for the things that will make whatever you choose to do worth it for you and make sure you get some satisfaction.
