Hi everyone! This post is a bit long and has become a rant for me! But basically, I'm nervous about which college to go to. Honestly, I've always liked law, but I won't admit it to myself. My entire paternal family is in the law field, working in notary offices, and so is my mother, although she worked in the courts. My maternal grandmother also worked in the courts, and my sister is in her second semester of law school, along with two other cousins. However, I've never felt pressured to choose this field. I know they would support me no matter what. In fact, some of them even want me to do something like medicine. Despite this, I feel like if I choose law, unlike other fields, there will be a lot of pressure on me. I feel like the moment I decide to go to this field, it will carry more weight and I feel pressured. Like I'm "holding back" or just following my family. I feel a bit confined and like there are a lot of expectations on me, and it's not because of my family. They don't pressure me and are very calm and collected. I don't know why I feel this way. Despite this, the course that I identify with the most is this one, and since I didn't admit that I wanted this course, I took MANY career tests, and Law was ALWAYS one of the recommended ones, and I want to make it clear that this wasn't what made me believe that I wanted Law. I was very reluctant to go to the only one, but the more I researched, the more I liked it. When I asked close friends and teachers, they also said that Law suits me. I don't know what to do. I'm also afraid of going into this area and ending up not liking it, I don't know if I have a talent for Law. I also wonder if I'll like it or be successful? I feel like I have to be good and stand out in the career I choose, in addition to earning a good salary, to make them proud of me regardless of my career, but, with law it intensifies a lot, leaving me scared. This fear, self-imposed without external pressure, comes from the fact that they have always invested in me and my future and that I know they believe in me, and in my family, they are well-off and stand out in law, being highly recognized for it. Another point is that my older sister is extremely studious and I feel pressure when being compared to her, she is very responsible and always gets good grades. I always hear my mother praising her for being exemplary and she often spends the weekend studying. I feel that I am not as good, responsible or studious as her, and by choosing the same course as her, together with the fact that the pressure increases and the comparison increases even more, I feel that I am “imitating” her. We have always studied at the same schools and studying the same area, most likely at the same college, puts even more pressure on me. If anyone knows what I should do, I would appreciate it, if not, thank you for reading my text, I am really freaking out! Bye!

@independentLion8844

I think you should chose what you like or can see yourself doing long term this will be your career / work not your parents or your sisters. you have the ability with parents who also are in that field to see their actual work and ask yourself " do i see myself doing this?"

Many people chose items that they later find out that  NO  they dislike the career chosen when too young to really understand what they want  and when working hard  trying hard to stand out and make good money job becomes awful for them.

There will be time as you start to want things for YOURSELF,  not your parents or to 'win" over sister that you can chose something for You.   i think being in constant competition leads to distance between siblings and resentment in family.
