I want to quit

I want to quit my job but I can’t. In this economy and job market, I’m still the “lucky” ones to have a stable job. But job itself is okay but I’ve been meaning to switch to another career anyway. But lately, the people especially the manager has been treating me like poop. I was gone for 5 days because I was very ill and wasn’t able to update them in time and made me feel bad like I don’t already feel bad leaving for that long and I know my coworkers will be covering in the meantime. I understand I made a mistake and explained and apologized but I’ve been treated like I don’t exist and like I made the biggest mistake in the world. I have no idea how to approach this and I don’t know how else to apologize. Even before this happened I have been wanting to move to a different position but after months and months of applying for jobs, I still have nothing. It’s has really taken a toll of my mental health and I don’t want to go back into depression because it was tough to get out of that. I don’t know what to do. I want to tell my mom but I’m sure she wouldn’t understand.

It can be hard to not feel down in applying and looking but nothing ... i have stayed at jobs longer then i should just to avoid the job search disappointment.  if you were ILL it is not always something we can inform or update others on their time frame.... your health is first.

I think when we decide we need to move on and apply etc it is when a switch flips and we may not have focus or do less enthusiastically and co-workers often can see it even. perhaps boss is more sensing that then the sick time.

If you want to tell your mom do it ... she might have a different perspective and yes she could disagree but it starts a conversation. I think many people anymore do not share with others on the belief they may not see things the same as you.... that is the point we only grow and learn when we do things we take taht risk and open up to different perspectives.
